Even though I bike in Brooklyn as much as I can, with Ruby also, I forgot how amazing it is to live in Amsterdam. There are bikes paths everywhere. Stoplights for bikes. Everyone is on the bike--be it the student, the schoolkid, the parent with babe or the office worker in a fancy suit. Today I saw a "bakfiets" (like the one in the bottom picture) that had been adapted for a woman in her wheelchair. Why ever not?
Ruby and I are loving it. Today we biked through the city to Artis, the zoo (which I used to live across from). Marcella treated me to a quick refresher of some of the main bikes routes and sights that were part of my everyday when I used to live here. I was enjoying all the beautiful spots and Ruby couldn't stop pointing at the boats, the ducks, the bikes, the cars and so much more.
