It's so tough getting Ruby to pose for any photo and it's even harder when a cell phone camera has such a horrible delay. But this is pretty good, all things considered.

On Monday Ruby and I checked out a new play space at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange. Starting yesterday she is going to a weekly class there called "Music and Movement." When we went to get her signed up we discovered that they have an open play space a couple of days a week.

It's a cool space, with tunnels and hoops and all kinds of stuff that she doesn't have at home, including a huge beanie bag. Ruby would back up (all the way to the other side of the space), run towards it and then throw herself into it, which would result in the whole thing sliding backwards through the room. Giggles all round as you can imagine.

At some point she decided to pretend sleep. So that's how we get to see her lying down.

Even cuter though is that I got to capture her little Napoleon-ite habit of putting a hand in her shirt opening. She does this quite often, although most usually at night when she's busy figuring out how to position herself before going to sleep (and only if she isn't trying to burrow both her hands under my body--her other favorite "getting-into-a-position-for-sleep" thing).

This habit started after I started politely requesting that she remove my hand from my shirt. Once I started seriously decreasing nursing (she only nurses before nap and bedtime, and only if she asks, which she doesn't all the time), I guess she was missing my breasts and so she would stick her hand down my shirt whenever she got a chance. At first any suggestion or direct removal of her hand was a big no no for her, so I would begrudgingly put up with it for a few moments and then on the sly redirect her hands. Recently I've just been asking her to take her hand out, giving her the choice to comply or not, and it's been working...well, almost every time that is.
