Whose street? Ruby's street! Ruby took back her streets this morning, while helping table for the Prospects Lefferts (a neighborhood just south of us) anti-war group. She had a good time and we talked to quite a few community members.

Besides pointing out how many of our communities taxes fund the war, our purpose is to go into highschools and educate students about the war. When Bush enacted the "no child left behind" act, he also made it mandatory for schools to send contact info for their students to the military. As kids approach graduation military recruiters become like vultures, playing on kids often bleak outlooks on their chances of going to college and promising that if they sign up the military will pay for the future schooling--if they make it back alive out of Iraq that is. So this group of community activists goes into the schools and lets students know that they are allowed to opt-out from that special little clause in the act and talks about other ways of going to college.
