Ruby is so into life right now. She is completely full-on everything, every moment of the day. It's exhilarating to watch and slightly tiring to keep up with! Tonight I was racing through the house with her hanging on to my back. We were both giggling. Five minutes later she was fast asleep, because life is sleep too (thankfully says mom).
Today she showed how much she is absorbing new words, constantly. She took a plastic cup from a water dispenser at the garage and told me that she was going to make a heart for her Grandma Pat. I said I was sure Grandma would be happy to get a heart from her. She looked up, almost shocked, and responded, "No, she won't be happy, mama. She'll be impressed." Right.
The flipside of this is that, especially in the last few weeks, Ruby has not stopped talking. At all. It is a running monologue of "why" and "how" and "when" and "what." I keep on reminding myself that this is how she learns and it's all good and fun and I'm a pretty good talker myself, so we manage, mostly. But the deep sighs are there, as I catch my breath and figure out how to respond to this amazingly inquistively positively chatty toddler.

Yup, isn't that something ? I remember how wonderful those years were : they are so bursting with life. And the good thing is that this will last at least for another year or two. Then they'll move into a different phase. So enjoy !... and I'm sad not being there...
