Ruby and Sam (aka Sam Sam or the Samster) are still such very good friends. But Ruby goes to school on Monday and Tuesday and Sam goes to school on Thursday and Friday. So both families, including the caregivers, Marie and Blossom, have been making sure that these best friends can still see each other regularly.

Before Sam's mom went back to work from maternity leave (Sam has a new little sister, Adelaide), the four of us got to hang out once a week. And now Sam and Ruby hang out on Thursday afternoon, with the caregivers, as soon as he gets out of school. Soon though Ruby will be in school until 4pm on Thursday's and we'll have to find other Sam & Ruby time.

A few weeks back, when the weather was still good, I went to pick up Ruby in the playground at the end of the day. As soon as I walked in I saw Sam and Ruby. They were sitting in Dora chairs, across from one another, playing at some plastic kitchen set. I stood there for a minute, watching their delight, and thinking that they looked like an old happy couple.

It's nice that a chance meeting of brand new moms in a coffee shop years ago led to this special relationship between two kids in the neighborhood.
