Ruby sleeps on our bed during the day. As you can tell, she sleeps: 1) on her stomach/face down and 2) our bed cover has stripes on it. It's always fun to see what she looks like when she wakes up!

Some other Ruby developments:

* She is constantly babbling now. And not only is she using new babble-words all the time, but she uses them consistently in certain situations. When I tell her I'm going to nurse her, she starts giggling nervously. When she sees a dog on the street she yells "ada." When she wants something, she'll use a long drawn out whine. She also laughs in reaction to our laughing now, which just makes us want to laugh all the time. I'm sure she has more meaningful babbles, but us adults are slow on the uptake.

* She still belly crawls backwards and doesn't really enjoy it much, because she's not going in the direction she wants. A forward-looking girl. But she is practicing getting those knees folded underneath her. Now she will often go from sitting to lying on her belly, so she can get in another round of practice.

* She has one toy that plays lights and songs. Already a while ago she figured out that if she stuck it in her mouth, she would trigger the button that makes it play. Yesterday we showed her how to push the button with her finger and she liked that concept. She's still a little shaky on getting the finger on top of the button though.

* She's exploring more and more fingers foods now. Besides cheerio cereal, she'll munch on watermelon, teething crackers, pear and carrots. Her thumb-finger grasp is more efficient, but when she's playing on her belly, she'll just suck those cheerios up off the floor directly. Why bother with that pincer grasp motor skill huh?

* She just loves being worn. Out comes the sling and madame is happy--in the house or out of the house. When I vacuum with her in the backpack she watches the vacuum cleaner closely, peering around my shoulder.

Sure tough to be a little kid with all those adults around you who don't understand what you're telling them! But then again, Marsha, what happened to that baby language book you bought? Not had time to study it?
I keep marveling at how fast she's growing up : getting a real little person now. Had to laugh and could quite picture her sucking Cheerios off the floor: why tire yourself when food is right under your nose? Shades of tia Jaya???
Love to you all, Mamie.

Auntie Paula:

Lieve Marsha,
ik heb net de video's bekeken.
Geweldig!
