Changing Ruby's diaper can be a hit and miss event. Sometimes she'll be all cheerful and happily play with some out of reach (except under close supervision--especially because it requires standing on the changing table) toys afterwards, as if nothing eventful worth mentioning just happened. And then sometimes she'll cry throughout the whole entire ordeal, often while kicking her legs (which if she has a poop diaper just amps up the feelings for both parties).
There is no apparent reason why she is okay one time and not okay another time with diaper changing. Telling her ahead of time that we're going to change her diaper might help sometimes, but other times it just means the crying starts earlier. Giving her a special toy that she usually never would get to play with (my cellphone for example) can sometimes distract her long enough and other times it's just tossed on the floor because she has more important things to do, like protest diaper changing. The cool bouncy wooden toys (merci mamie!) sometimes help and sometimes don't. You get the picture; it's a regular recurring hit and miss event.
Besides this little story, I also wanted to document a picture of Ruby being sad. It happens to the best of us. When we get our diapers changed, when we bang our head as we're learning to walk, when we don't have much control over where we go, when we go, what we eat, when we go to bed and all that stuff and so forth. So Ruby has her sad moments. Lately she has been less prone to jump right into tears running down her cheeks sad; instead she'll purse her lips in this amazingly endearing and funny way to indicate she's not happy and if we don't figure it out, tears might follow. It's nice to have some warning.

how about giving her a music box where she has to pull the cord while diaper changing... and taking it off her when the job is done. and giving it again during the next diaper change... that way she'll associate a pleasant (music) moment with the unpleasant job of changing. perhaps worth a try...
