Ever since we got the tree up and have been doing some home renovations in preparation for Mamie, Papie, Jaya and Jean-Claude's arrival in a few weeks, Ruby has been talking about getting ready for christmas. Her preparations include lights (check, although she is very preoccupied with whether each and every store has their lights up), making sure she has got nice clothes on, and wondering about the christmas presents.
Thankfully her concern with presents seems mostly abstract because she hasn't asked what she's getting or told us what she wants. We've started talking a lot about solistice and how the lights are so nice as the days get shorter and the weather gets colder.
A few nights ago she spent a solid hour decorating her fingers and toes. And my fingers ("Mom, that's so cool!" she exclaimed and gave me a jovial slap on the back). And she started on poupee's fingers too (see video), but ran out of time.

I don't know why - and The Mook can't give me an answer - but she HATES it when my toenails are painted. I went for a pedi last Sunday and she has been very disturbed about it since. "Mummy, take that off. I don't like it!"
These days, I'm kicking myself for ever introducing the idea of 'Santa'. I find Christmas so obnoxious and would rather focus on the solstice, giving to others, being thankful for what we have. Instead there is the obnoxiousness that is "Christmas" even in a multi-cultural city like Toronto.
Wow, Rubikins, and Papie & Mamie & Jaya & Jean-Claude have started counting the days too... till the moment that we can come and give you a BIG, BIG hug - we are very excited about coming to see you !!! and Maman & Papa David also. Only 15 more days...
Love, mamie
