I think I may have already mentioned on this blog that David and Ruby spend a lot of time on Fire Island? Yeah, they do. And just to be clear, going to Fire Island is a serious commitment: at least 90mins driving (provided you don't hit traffic, and this is NYC, so there's almost always traffic), a ferry crossing that takes about 40mins and then a 10min walk to the beach.
They were there again this past Friday: left at 8am and were back about 8pm and happy as can be. This time they spent the entire time on the bay side, which means no waves and warmer water. David told me that Ruby acts as if she owns the place, in a totally good way. She's comfortable there and chats with everyone ("what's your name, what are you doing, can I play with you, can I pet your dog?" and so forth), making many friends.
So it's a good thing that David shopped around for a bargain on a rental house for us for one week in September. It's been over a year since we've taken a whole week off as a family, so we're really psyched.

P.S. Except... the colour of the water looks a bit yucky. Is that normal or a trick of light ?
