On Saturday we went hiking. Ruby was excited and we were anxious to see how our city girl would put up with lots of nature. As it turns out, we all had a blast--Ruby's expected fatigue notwithstanding. We probably walked about 4 miles (almost 6.5kms), making it halfway up the mountain and I'm guessing Ruby walked about 2 miles on her own.
Ironically she did not want to use the hiking backpack (which she loves using in the city), so when she did get tired we would carry her just a little way until something piqued her interest.
We crossed fields with wildflowers (and thought of you Oma) and grass higher than the babe, we crossed rivers that David and Ruby mucked around in, and we walked through a wet forest (it rained for part of our hike) halfway up the mountain. Ruby laughed her head off every time David tugged at a tree we were just walking under and the water on the leaves would drench us.
We saw frogs, a snake, deer, bright orange lizards, a millipede, bugs, and butterflies. We met a lady with her dog Sam.
We ate lunch under some trees while it was really pouring and Ruby was freaked out by a daddy long legs-like spider.
After a quick snack in town, Ruby fell asleep within 3secs on the way back home. We were all happy to finally resume our hiking plans--more in the works!
