This past weekend, as you may have read on my Twitter, Megan, EJ, Ruby and I went to Fire Island. David joined us there, which meant that us gals took the train out there. It was a long day--2 hours on the train, a walk to the ferry, the 30min ferry ride and then another walk to the beach (which we delayed by eating french fries first, with "checkup"--Ruby's word for ketchup), a solid four hours at the beach and then the reverse in the car back home.
The girls were a delight all day long though. Only one scuffle erupted over small shovels at the beach--they both wanted the pink shovel (girls!) and no one was satisfied with the red shovel. Fortunately it took just a short demonstration to prove that both shovels performed the same function perfectly fine and so who cared which one you used.
They were both exhausted though. EJ fell asleep waiting for the ferry back home (which Megan and I were buying her a promised ice-cream, so that was a slight issue upon her awakening) and Ruby was asleep within 10 minutes of walking into the house. She was so tired she even forgot to ask for her promised "pollipop" (=lollipop) which was just fine by us parents anxious to get some rest ourselves.
