Flot Update #5
Dear friends,
This list is expanding, but my postings have decreased! Time to fix that. For the new gals on this list--this is an informal list I created early on to send out news from time to time about my pregnancy. "Flot" is slang for kid in quebecois, and the kid growing in my belly goes by the name of Flot.
I've received numerous appeals for a picture of my belly. My verbal reports that it's growing don't seem to do it for those of you who don't see me from time to time. So check out these pics (http://www.flickr.com/photos
My other pregnancy news:
* I'm feeling like three months is still a long time! My back has started aching, sleeping is more difficult and the heat is already bugging me. Fortunately, the upside is that David and I still have time to figure out where to put little Flot, get the stuff together that we need (starting by figuring out *what* we need, as it's not always self-evident; for example, I was kindly offered two free exersaucers and had no idea what the heck that was!) and start some childbirth education classes (which David is not so interested in, he seems much more focused on newborn education--typical, as he doesn't have to squeeze Flot out!).
* As far as we can possibly know all is well with Flot though. My 22 week sono (already six weeks ago) was fine. The person squirting all the gooey stuff (specially warmed) on my belly was nice about not enticing us with information about Flot's sex. David thinks that Flot's profile looks like he's a boy though, so who knows..?! We have no good ideas for boys names yet.
* My friend Mary in Boston, and Teresa and Esther in NYC, have taken on the task of organizing a baby shower for me in Brooklyn on July 15. We're having a high tea and Mary is concoting some entertaining games. David's family is also organizing a shower, planned for the weekend of August 5-6, so there's our deadline for getting Flot's room ready, because I'm not sure where else we're going to put all that stuff! I'm just thrilled by the wonderful community of people in our life who are excited about being part of Flot's life too!
* A parent-centric tidbit: my awesome friend Matina in Toronto gave me a subscription to Brain, Child. I've received two issues and devoured them within days of getting them. The stories about having and raising kids are refreshing in that they don't treat you like someone incapable of deep (dare I say, intellectual) thoughts, which most other parent-focused magazines in the U.S seem to do.
* Finally, I took Flot (and David and his mom came along) to Portugal end of May for 10 days. Not really pregnancy news, but if any of you want to see more pics, feel free to check them out at: http://www.flickr.com/photos
That's it for now! I hope you are all well and already enjoying or at least making plans to enjoy the summer. I know I'm going to do my best to enjoy the summer, despite the predictable aches and pains involved with carrying around a tiny being in my belly.
Hugs and love, Marsha
